Childhood obesity. It is a shame these two words have to be put together and put together so often. The word childhood should conger up thoughts of children playing, learning, exploring and just having fun.

Many people who have diabetes do not know that they have it, making it a serious problem. The American Diabetes Association claims that more than 16 million Americans currently suffer from the condition. Diabetics not only suffer from the disease itself, but can also suffer from its complications, which include heart attack, stroke, renal (kidney) failure, and the need for amputations. Sometimes death can also be a complication. It is estimated that almost 170,000 Americans die a year from the disease.

Short of sexuality, nothing permeates our culture quite like the issue of weight. Specifically, the loss and management of it. One could make a case that sex and fat are two sides of the same cheeseburger, but nonetheless we are bombarded by images and messages that remind us we don't look at all like swim suit models or Health practitioner .

Binge eating disorder and bad eating habits are triggered by stressful situations or even hints of stressful situations to come. It is all in the mind, a mental game which could be played to our advantage. The trick is to take the mind places. That's right. To switch the stressful imagery in the mind into an imagery of intense relaxation filled with feel-good factors. That could be done through self-hypnosis, a wonderful panacea for almost all ills.

A couple of months ago, I was approached by a coworker who had three pretty overweight children, who frankly were approaching being obese. After seeing my results, and noticing that I'd been able to eat snack type foods, my coworker wanted to know if Medifast could work for her kids and her teenage daughter. Here's what happened...

Right off the bat I can give two examples of people who sabotage being healthy. And that is what it is all about. The bottom line is being healthy.

Most of the diets handed down from healthcare professionals to their patients can be regarded (sometimes by both parties) as punishment for past excesses. The diets themselves are often spartan regimes unrelieved by tasty or satisfying foods. The Mediterranean diet is different. The variety of taste and texture, the bright colorful fruits, vegetables and pulses, the discovery of fish as an exciting and tasty alternative to meat makes the diet easy and satisfying to follow and easy to recommend.

It is generally accepted that diet is an important factor in the aetiology of cancer. The scientific evidence for detailed recommendations with respect to cancer prevention is limited by the difficulty in designing and implementing strictly controlled intervention studies to support the role of single foods or nutrients.

Its delicate taste has made it a foodie favorite and it is indispensable to most Italian and Spanish dishes. Olive oil is far better than butter for the heart because it is rich in mono-unsaturates, a type of fatty acid thought to help protect against heart disease by reducing high density lipoprotein concentrations in the blood. Olive oil contains the same amount of calories as other oils, so excess could lead to weight gain.

Nothing conjures up the delights of a Mediterranean holiday better than a snapshot of a simple wooden table laden with food. There's a rack of grilled sardines, a plate of tomatoes drizzled with olive oil and a bottle of robust warm red wine. Lazing on a sun dappled porch, every British tourist has harbored dreams of living like this back home. But as winter sets in, and the memories of the sun recede, so too does the lifestyle of Italy, Greece, southern France and Spain and the lithe, toned body we had begun to attain on holiday.
